Visa to Vietnam

Austrian citizens require a visa for Vietnam. You can apply for a visa at the Vietnam Embassy in Vienna no earlier than 6 months before departure.

The visa is fixed for a certain travel period and cannot be postponed. If you do not travel, the visa loses its validity.

The visa fee will not be refunded, even if the application is rejected or withdrawn.

The Vietnam Embassy can only provide information about the visas issued by the Embassy.

Please note the public holidays in Austria and Vietnam when submitting your application.

With immediate effect, the acceptance of all visa applications will be outsourced to the external service provider Österreichische Visa und Konsular Gesellschaft.

1. TOURIST VISA

The following documents must be submitted:

1. Original passport valid for at least 6 months upon entry into Vietnam and a copy of the photo page.

2. 02 (two) biometric passport photos (4.5 x 3.5 cm).

3. Visa application (download here).

4. Itinerary (download here).

5. Hotel booking.

6. Flight booking.

Processing time: 7 working days from delivery of the complete documents.

2. VISA WITH APPROVAL LETTER

The approval letter is the travel permit (or entry permit) from the Vietnamese immigration authorities (Vietnamese: Cục Quản lý xuất nhập cảnh), which the inviting organization or a private individual in Vietnam applies to the named authority for their guest (from third countries). The purpose of the trip (e.g. tourism, business, study...), the length of stay and the number of entries (single or multiple) are specified in the admission permit.

The admission permit entitles the applicant to apply for a visa at the Vietnam Embassy.

The following documents must be submitted:

1. Original passport valid for at least 6 months upon entry into Vietnam and a copy of the photo page.

2. 02 (two) biometric passport photos (4.5 x 3.5 cm).

3. Visa application (download here).

4. The travel permit (approval number) issued by the Vietnamese immigration authorities.

Processing time: 3-5 business days

3. VISA ON ARRIVAL

The visa on arrival requires the entry permit from the Vietnamese immigration authorities (see 2. Visa with Approval Letter) and is granted for the following cases:

1. The traveler comes from the country where there is no Vietnamese diplomatic or consular representation.

2. The traveler has booked a tour with a licensed Vietnamese travel agency.

3. Crew members of the international shipping companies who are currently anchored in the Vietnamese seaport.

4. The traveler urgently needs to attend a funeral service for their relatives or visit the dying relative.

5. The traveler comes at the invitation of a Vietnamese agency for disaster relief or for an urgent official purpose.

If the traveler does not meet these requirements, he must apply for a standard visa.

Entry Permission entitles the traveler to be carried by the airline and collect the visa upon arrival at a Vietnam International Airport.

The entry permit also entitles the traveler to apply for a visa at the Vietnam Embassy in Vienna.

4. CRUISE VISA

A tourist visa with a single entry is sufficient for a one-off shore leave.

If several landings take place at different seaports and the cruise does not leave the 12-mile zone of Vietnamese territorial waters during the voyage at sea, it is not a matter of exit and a single-entry tourist visa is sufficient.

Since the ship's route is not announced in most cases, a multiple-entry visa is recommended.

5. TRANSIT VISA

A transit visa is not required for transit at a Vietnam International Airport as long as the traveler does not exit the international transit area of the airport and board the immediate connecting flight.

6. JOURNEY TO PHU QUOC

Foreign travelers are allowed 30 days of visa-free travel to Phu Quoc Island if they take the direct flight (or cruise) to Phu Quoc from abroad or if they come from abroad and directly connect to Phu Quoc with a stopover at a Vietnam International Airport.

If the traveler has to take a domestic flight (e.g. from Ha Noi to Ho Chi Minh City) in order to catch the connecting flight to Phu Quoc, he needs a visa.

If the trip also includes a stay on the mainland, the visa requirement applies to the entire duration of the trip.

* The applicant is obliged to check all data on the visa. The errors must be reported immediately to the embassy. Later complaints cannot be considered.
